If I were a book I’d have no title. You’ll see me with a cover but with no art. You can find me in the mystery section. I fit to the left of that book and to the right of that book. I am shorter than all the tall books but thicker than all of the thin books. A reader see’s me and wonders with a lazy curiosity. She pulls me off my shelf but un-attracted by the dust, intimidated by my weight and not pleased by my cover, she misplaces me back onto a shelf. I am placed where I fit but look awkward to the others. Another reader sees me. She picks me out only to put me back where I belong but hesitates because she likes the way I feel and the way I smell when my pages turn. Curios to why I have no title and cover art. She takes me out. She reads a slow beginning but a fast ending. She laughed, cried and questioned. I let her in on all of my secrets.

A book with no mask reveals her reflection. Out of a mystery book it’s the last thing she would expect but the only thing she could ever want, but soon to realize it was what she needed. Like most great books you would want to share, she would refuse. She didn’t let anyone between us. Plenty of space on her book shelf but I’m placed where it is dark and safe. Wherever I am, it smell’s great! And finally, I have a title! She titles me, “About Me”.

-As a book I can only remember being able to feel, see and smell. I couldn’t talk! Lol-

(a) Licensee or a customer of Licensee shall have the worldwide, non-exclusive, non-assignable, non-divisible right to perform the Music publicly for non-broadcast purposes (including “message-on-hold” or “advertising-on-hold” applications transmitted via telephone systems including theatrical motion pictures and full length direct to video motion pictures when the Music is combined with other audio and/or visual elements added by Licensee and where the Music is not a featured part of any such presentation but rather an incidental or background element.
(b) If Licensee’s use is an audio-visual use which is broadcast over television, radio, cable, satellite or similar medium, then Licensee agrees to exercise reasonable care to make such broadcast information available to Licensor so that Licensor can arrange to collect its performance fees on the Music from the performing rights society with which Licensor is affiliated.
3. Licensor warrants that: it is the holder of the copyright in the Music and/or has contracted the rights to the Music, it has full power and authority to enter into this License and to grant Licensee the permission accorded under this License.
4. While Licensee by this License acquires the physical property embodying the Music (media) and the license to use the Music as described in this License, Licensee does not acquire any ownership rights in the Music or its underlying copyrights
5. If the Licensee does not comply with the terms of this license, or fails to pay for the license of the music, all rights granted to Licensee shall terminate, and Lovett “YaBoyVett” Evans reserves the right to any other remedy available by law.

Happy Holidays Everyone!

Things are really moving! The progress bar is really moving. As I mentioned last week about the collaboration with Craig Peeler from Canada, it just hasnt stopped.

We're also working on a record called "Just Yesturday" by recording artist/guitarist/pianist and songwriter Emily Angell. We met Emily at a showcase at Symphony Theater. After a performance of one of her new songs, I had to reach out to her and get things going. Funny enough, prior to the show, we were already in communication over the web. So the initial meet and greet was straight to the point.

The project is definitely in its early stages however we're moving pretty fast. I cant wait until you guys hear this record.

We've got some great recordings coming out soon. We've been branching out into other genres to exploit our music to a different listening audience. I have to admit things have been going great. We've been getting great feedback about our last record "Free Me" written and recorded by Morgen La Civita(produced by myself), which hasnt been officially released yet. Definitely keep an ear open for that!

Moving forward, we've linked up with another great artist by the name of Craig Peeler, a talented canadian artist and guitarist. We've managed to reach out as far as Canada and are pleased to work with Peeler on the record! He loved the reference track by Melo. You'd be suprised how far apart music professionals go for that right sound.

This new record is called "Farewell", and its going to turn alot of heads! The song was written by Rene "Melo" Lopez and produced by myself. Definitely keep an ear out for it. Special thanks to Peeler for the collaboration. Expect more to come. Da MVPz

Free Me - Morgen La Civita & YaBoyVett (Da MVPz)

A few months ago I composed a track called "Free Me". Usually, once I'm done composing, I'll give the track a title according to how it makes me feel. I will then develop a direction. Often enough, the title of the track becomes the title of the song.

About three months ago I reached out to a few artist and songwriters to bring the idea to life. After about a month of searching an artist/songwriter by the name of Morgen La Civita (Morgen Satzger) responded with interest in writing to the music.

In no time, she had the song written and reference track done ready for pitching. At the moment we are pitching the record to Jordan Sparks.

I have to say, I enjoyed working with morgen. Her knowledge of music was pretty helpful to me. I appreciate and I am pleased to have had a chance to work with her.

The song will be available for listening soon. Look out for it.

Message to All Artist (Rappers & Singers) Producers Welcomed

As a producer, the hardest part of our job is making a living off of what we do. Creating music is the easy part. A college degree doesn't give us the security we need to be successful in the music industry. Its not a DAY job. You don't see producers walking into Sam Ash or Guitar Center looking for quality equipment and software, going up to the cash register asking the sales agent,"Can I get this for free?". It doesn't work like that. We understand that its a business and we have to invest in ourselves to get what we ultimately need. So Producers!!!, stop letting beats go for FREE or selling them for an insulting price. Charge however much you feel your music's worth.

On another note, Producers spend countless hours on tailoring their sound to surpass the consumers expectations. We have to find the thin line between originality and "mainstream" just to be considered "Marketable". Its rare nowadays that we find an artist who looks for the producers' sound. We constantly hear clients wanting sound a likes, and what often happens is the producer puts out a sound that he or she isn't %100 confident in. Artist, If you like what you hear appreciate it, Make it your own, and if you really need buy it. Producers will be more happy to work with you than to lose a customer. :-)

I was reading Sharyn Hall's blog and her topic caught my interest. RACE.
Although below I may not really show how i feel about race but hopefully you get the idea.

READ HOW SHE FEELS ABOUT RACE AND THEN READ MY RESPONSE AND THEN COMMENT

I am a recent graduate from U. C. Berkeley where I studied my passion extensively. I majored in psychology and sociology and have drawn many of my theories from these disciplines. In the interest of full-disclosure here are my biases:

-I believe that racism started in religion and that religion keeps Black people in economic and political oblivion.
-I believe that the facts of what happened to disenfranchise Blacks is all that matters and that these facts are in the past. This means that our feelings about racism is what needs transformation. For example, slavery is NOT currently happening to us, so we need to relinquish our pain about slavery and focus on what factual things are actually happening to us today.
-I believe that White people are not automatically and intentionally racist just because they are White.
-I believe that ALL White people benefit from white privilege and that they do not want to become aware of this fact because it would be their undoing; Acknowledging that one is ahead because of privilege is counter-intuitive for ANYONE regardless of skin color.
-I believe that people are arbitrarily thrown into their cultures of birth; therefore, I hate it when people believe that their culture is somehow paramount. IT'S COMPLETELY ARBITRARY WHY YOU BELIEVE SO DEEPLY WHAT YOU BELIEVE SOLELY BECAUSE OF CULTURE!!! Your way is not the right way and neither is mine.
-I am primarily concerned with the plight of Black Americans, not Africans etc., because I am Black. However, I am interested in what's happening with all people of color. This is not because I am such a good and caring person, but because after much resistance I now understand that there really is only ONE STRUGGLE.
-I believe that "truth" is a duplicitous mix of simultaneous beauty and smut.
-I believe that inauthenticity (suppressing and not saying what you really fucking feel) is the root of ALL hatred.

I will add to this list here and there.

So, that's a good start. I'm sure I've already made some enemies and some friends. Both are welcome.

Please know that the only rule to my blog is COMPLETE AUTHENTICITY. If it's up, let it out... raw as hell :-)

Im not one to always talk about race, but when its brought up I feel obligated to talk about it. My personal take on race may only be different because of the way I grew up.
I was raised by my mother in a shelter in the South Bronx, which is what we title 'nowadays' as mini Puerto Rico. lol. As a child both my mother and father never restricted me to only be around my own people. I have to admit, I was unaware about racism until I went to school and was taught it. But beyond all and regardless of what I heard about other races, I never see people as a color or race. You are either dark or light. I'm 20 years old and I appreciate my era. I think my era is most comfortable with eachother. I think the percentage of inter-racial couples have increased. I'm sure there are still racist people out there and i need them to know that they should think for themselves and don't relive something that has happened in the past.
